Spartan Race vs Tough Mudder
Spartan Races are timed races with athletes competing against one another.
The first race took place in 2001.
The distance of these races varies from 1 mile all the way up to marathon distances.
Some of the obstacles include:
- Spear Throw
- Fire Jump
- Barbed Wire Crawl
If you can’t complete one of the obstacles, the punishment is 30 burpees.
There are three different types of Spartan Races:
- Sprint: 2-5 miles
- Super Spartan 8+ miles
- Beast 12+ miles
There’s prizes for the top finishers.
Tough Mudder has only been in existence since 2010.
It’s a 10-12 mile race through mud with military style obstacles.
Tough Mudder encourages team work to get through the race with your entire team.
The race isn’t timed with the goal being to finish (78% of participants do).
If you can’t complete one of the 20-25 obstacles then you can skip it and move on.
